Cold chain: why packaging decides your purity
A 99% lot that spends nine days in a warm depot is not a 99% lot when it arrives. What we do about that.
Purity is measured once, at the point of release. Everything that happens afterwards is a story about logistics.
Lyophilised material is robust, not invincible
Freeze-dried peptide powder is genuinely stable at ambient temperature for short periods — that is the entire point of lyophilisation. The failure mode is not heat alone, it is heat plus moisture plus time.
The specific risk is condensation. A vial that warms and cools repeatedly in transit will draw moisture toward the cold glass. Water in the cake accelerates hydrolysis and deamidation, and once that has started no amount of careful handling at the bench recovers it.

The transit maths
Cold chain integrity is a function of hours, not miles. A parcel moving within the UK on a tracked 24-hour service spends roughly one working day in the network. An imported parcel clearing customs can spend nine or more, with unmanaged temperature at both ends.
This is the single strongest argument for buying from UK-held stock rather than direct from an overseas synthesis facility. It is not about patriotism, it is about how many hours your material spends warm.
What to check on arrival
- Are the gel packs still cool or partially frozen?
- Is the cake intact, or has it collapsed to a film at the bottom of the vial?
- Is there visible condensation inside the vial?
- Is the stopper fully seated and the crimp undamaged?
A collapsed cake is not automatically a failed lot, but combined with warm packs it is worth raising before you use the material.
If something looks wrong
Photograph the outer packaging, the gel packs and the vial, then contact us within 48 hours. We replace or refund verified transit damage in full, including postage. We would rather absorb that cost than have questionable material used in someone's assay.
